Ramee Grand Hotel & Spa, located in Seef, is currently seeking a skilled and dedicated Shift Engineer to join our maintenance team. The Shift Engineer will play a crucial role in ensuring the efficient operation and maintenance of the hotel’s facilities and equipment, contributing to the overall guest satisfaction and safety.

Shift Engineer Job Description

Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance tasks on mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems and equipment throughout the hotel property.
  2. Respond promptly to guest requests, maintenance calls, and equipment malfunctions, troubleshooting issues and performing repairs as needed to minimize downtime and disruption.
  3. Monitor and control the operation of building systems, including boilers, chillers, pumps, generators, fire alarm systems, and emergency lighting, to maintain optimal performance and compliance with safety standards.
  4. Conduct regular checks of the hotel’s utility systems, such as water, gas, and electricity, identifying and addressing any abnormalities, leaks, or inefficiencies to prevent accidents and ensure reliability.
  5. Perform minor carpentry, painting, and locksmithing tasks, as well as repairs to furniture, fixtures, and building finishes, to maintain the aesthetic appearance and functionality of guest rooms and public areas.
  6. Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders, inspections, equipment readings, and inventory levels, using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) or manual logs.
  7. Collaborate with the Engineering team and other departments to coordinate scheduled maintenance activities, shutdowns, and repairs, ensuring minimal disruption to hotel operations and guest services.
  8. Adhere to safety protocols and regulations, wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and following established procedures for working at heights, handling hazardous materials, and operating power tools and machinery.
  9. Participate in training sessions and skill development programs to enhance technical knowledge and proficiency in maintenance techniques, equipment operation, and safety procedures.
  10. Communicate effectively with supervisors, colleagues, and external contractors, reporting maintenance issues, progress updates, and recommendations for improvements or upgrades.
  11. Monitor energy consumption and utility usage patterns, identifying opportunities for conservation and cost savings through efficiency measures and equipment upgrades.
  12. Ensure compliance with relevant codes, standards, and regulations governing building operations, fire safety, environmental protection, and occupational health and safety.

Requirements:

  • Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in building maintenance, facilities management, or engineering operations, preferably in a hotel or hospitality environment.
  • Strong technical knowledge and practical skills in troubleshooting and repairing mechanical and electrical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, lighting, and controls.
  • Familiarity with building automation systems (BAS), energy management systems (EMS), and computerized maintenance management software (CMMS) is advantageous.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities, with the ability to diagnose complex issues, prioritize tasks, and implement effective solutions under pressure.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as collaboratively as part of a team, to achieve departmental goals and objectives.
  • Flexibility to work rotating shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, based on operational requirements and emergency response needs.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written, with proficiency in English and the ability to interact professionally with guests, colleagues, and contractors.
